Express Towers was built in the year 1972, and it was planned and constructed with a vision to be the most modern building of its kind in the country. Express Towers has over four decades provided a unique business edge to international and domestic corporates. For years, it has defined Nariman Point's identity as a premier commercial business district in Mumbai. Yet, more than anything else, it is an icon of Mumbai's skyline.
This iconic building was the brain child of the visionary Late Sri Ramnath Goenka, the founder of the Express Group. Express Towers was designed by the legendary architect Joseph Allen Stein. The famous Express Towers motif was created by well-known designer, the Late Ms. Nelly Sethna. This design has been incorporated in many ways in the building and pays homage to her vision.
One of the most iconic skyscrapers on the Mumbai skyline for over four decades, Express Towers is a much sought-after commercial property in Mumbai’s Central Business District (CBD). And now, Express Towers is gearing up for an all new beginning! Pune based Panchshil Realty and global PE major Blackstone, another long time patron, acquired Express Towers in 2014, and will now be the new guardians of this landmark and its legacy.
Panchshil promises to take the heritage and asset value of Express Towers to newer heights. However, what remains unchanged is the commitment to serve our customers.
The Express Towers brand of excellence has always provided a unique business edge on the international and domestic corporate stage. Upon completion in 1972, the 105 metres tall Express Towers became the tallest building in South Asia then, ending the 9 years long reign of the 101 metres tall Habib Bank Plaza in Karachi. Today, Express Towers is the preferred premium destination for leading MNCs and Indian corporate houses, especially financial and knowledge-led businesses that work out of Mumbai, one of Asia’s leading financial capitals.
The home of the Indian Express, every aspect of the building was planned and executed on a scale exemplifying modernity combined with ecological consciousness. It was the determined effort of Late Sri Ramnath Goenka, founder of the Express Group, which built Express Towers, to develop the first skyscraper on reclaimed land at Nariman Point.
Due to Stein’s vision and skills, the sublime layout assures tenants the best-in-class amenities. Today, Express Towers continues to define the finest environs of business in Mumbai – a refined superiority that is craved by all but achieved by the best.
Joseph Allen Stein’s designs and work encapsulate his philosophy – urban needs balanced with natural features. This permitted the construction of an edifice characterised by graceful proportions in confluence with nature’s elements. In his own words, Stein wanted to raise “an example of international urban environment at an office and institutional level that demonstrates the form and means to restore ordinary urban life with orderliness…”
In design and execution, Express Towers has followed the philosophy of Vaastu Shastra. With its prime location and contemporary services, Express Towers offers an unparalleled experience. It brings comprehensive capabilities across the corporate sector and is home to some of the most successful companies in the world.
The current transformation of the building has been undertaken in line with the architectural form and aesthetics, without disturbing the original vision of the legendary architect. Today, Joseph Allen Stein’s philosophy lives on at Express Towers.
