On April 2, 2018 - World Autism Awareness Day, Panchshil Realty joined the global movement “Light It Up Blue” to raise awareness regarding Autism. As part of Ummeed Child Development Center’s initiative, Panchshil-owned iconic Express Towers, located at Nariman Point – Mumbai, was lit up blue throughout the night, along with many other Mumbai landmarks, to reaffirm our commitment to making a difference in the lives of children with developmental disabilities.
It is estimated that 1 in 68 children today have Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is the fastest growing neuro-developmental disorder in the world that hugely impacts children’s development in how they speak and understand what is being said to them. Children with Autism often struggle to form friendships and other social relationships and may have interests or behaviors that are obsessive and repetitive. However, intervening early through appropriate therapy can change the course of the disorder.
April 2, 2018 is earmarked by the United Nations as World Autism Awareness Day. This day is part of a global movement to raise awareness regarding Autism and increase understanding about the importance of early diagnosis and intervention, and the need for lifetime support for children and families impacted by Autism.
To spread awareness on Autism, on 2nd April, 7 continents, 142 countries and 18,602 buildings turned blue as part of the ‘Light It Up Blue’ campaign initiated by an international organization – Autism Speaks. In Mumbai, Ummeed Child Development Center partnered with iconic buildings like Express Towers to become a part of this global initiative.
Express Towers, one of the most iconic skyscrapers on the Mumbai skyline for over four decades, participated with some of the other landmarks and buildings to spread awareness on Autism, such as Charkha Sculpture at Cross Maidan, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sanghralaya (CSMVS) Museum, Essar House, Headquarters: Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (BMC Buildings), Jaslok Hospital, Jindal Mansion, Kalaghoda Statue, Royal Opera House, Reliance Foundation Hospital, SRCC Hospital and the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.
The whole idea behind participating in such initiatives is to create spaces that are socially conscious. Express Towers’ participation in World Autism Awareness Day global movement shows our commitment towards the welfare and well-being of the community.
